How many poems about the Bush policies that Obama has embraced will we be hearing? Gitmo, denial of Miranda rights, more war, balancing the bidget on the poor and elderly... I seem to recall slam poets big on slamming Georgie boy, how about the current lawless government run by Prez Obama. Or are we not 2LFO?

This is not really a good place to present opinions about politics. There are 28,000,000 blogs out there that do discuss politics; perhaps you might post on some of those?

Anonymous, if you wanna know how many such poems were read, the best way to have found out would've been to attend the event. :)

And if you find that not enough such poems are being read around town, I encourage you to visit the open mics that are happening every night and let your poems/voice be heard.

Right, we spent years hearing anti war poems until it is a democratic president. Same wars, same war crimes but no poems. What gives?
Are all poets this hypocritical?

Anon - there are no anti war poems, no poems about cutting aid to the poor, about putting compromise above principal, about supporting unions and working people, such poems have never been written, will never be written. I don't know what the hell you've been reading, poetry is never about politics. Do you know how hard it is to rhyme with politics?

I'm not a great fan of political poems. Most of them don't tell me anything I don't know from reading the front page of the Plain Dealer, and I consider the PD about as deep as a kiddie pool in July when all the water has evaporated except for an inch-thick scum at the bottom. Poetry should show me things I haven't seen, not present unanalyzed retreads of recycled opinions. And as for incoherent screams of rage-- yeah, yeah, I know.

I'm thinking Anon must not have read some of my recent blog entries - like this one.

...or this one by Terry Provost.

...and he (or she) apparently wasn't at my last four featured readings, which all included (for better or worse) a significant political element. But then who was? :)
