I know it was asked elsewhere, but who has been assigned the royalties for the big book. Shouldn't it be the person who signed the book deal granting the copyright use?

Yeah, who is going to make the fortune off of this book, cause poetry sells baby.

I just hope bottom dog breaks even.

It's not really about profit, it's about intellectual property. Is this a tribute to a great poet, or theft? Does the "complete" works halt sales every previous book published by the artist's agreement. Copyright law protects the heirs of artists (even if there is no will). Is the policy of Bottom Dog to take whatever rightfully belongs to the heirs of it's poetic "friends"?

I there only silence from Bottom Dog?

As a general thing, when a publisher publishes a book of poetry, they do it with the permission and usually the participation of the author, or if the author is dead, the authors's heirs.
Is there some particular reason to make anonymous accusations about this book, in particular?

Will the poets who are reading at the THE BIG BOOK OF DANIEL book release events donate their reading fees to the poet's friends and heirs?
Because if they are not donating what they are being paid to read these poems then I don't think any of us should attend.

I wasn't aware the readers were getting paid anything. I was invited to read at the event in Kent on 4/5, though I couldn't make it because .I had surgery that day. No one offered to pay me anything - I wanted to go simply because I wanted to honor Daniel and his work

"Being paid to read these poems?"
Wow, that would be nice.
--I expect Billy Collins and Maya Angelou get nice reading fees. For most of the rest of us, the peons laboring in the vinyards of words and stomping out the wine of poetry, the recompense is primarily spiritual. That means: no money.

Why doesn't the publisher, who stands to make a fortune from this book, pay the readers for their willingness to act as commercial spoke persons?

Geoffrey A. Landis said...

Yeah!
And, also, how come they don't hold the readings in the Arena, so more people can attend? They'd surely sell more books if the readers were reading to a crowd of 10,000, right?

Damn straight Skippy, poetry sells mad crazy.
Hence all the questions of who is getting the BIG BUCKS from the sale of this book.
